Silanation

SNOWPOST® & SNOWLIGHT® composite posts are factory silanated for enhanced adhesive qualities.

Snowpost® post + Primer Bonding + Adhesive Resin Cement
There is a real chemical bonding between the bonding cement and the post.

About Silanation

Silane is not a wetting agent, silane is not a coating!

Silane is a coupling agent used to promote adhesion.

How Does Silane Work?

Silane acts on the surface of minerals (such as glass or ceramic) and also on the surface of organic polymers (such as epoxy, polyester or metacrylate resins) causing a chemical reaction. This reaction is a condensation reaction in the case of mineral groups or, in the case of polymers, it is an addition reaction and/or copolymerization by reaction with terminal groups and grafting with free-radical sites.

Silanation improves adhesion.

Silanation improves hydrolysis resistance.

Silanation increases toughness.

Why Factory Silanation?

The organo-silane used must be chosen to react with the proper polymer of the post.

Silane solutions have a limited lifetime.

The silanation procedure is precise and must be respected: factory silanation with accurate industrial control is the answer.

Questions on Silanation

Q How long is silanation active?

A Silanation is a permanent chemical reaction always active when done.

Q If a post is taken with bare fingers, does it remove the silanation?

A No, but the fingers make a greasy deposit (finger prints). Wipe the post with a tissue and alcohol to clean it.

Q Does sterilisation destroy silanation?

A No, silanation effects remain even after posts have been sterilized.
