Silane is a coupling agent used to promote adhesion. |
Silane
acts on the surface of minerals (such as glass or ceramic) and also on
the surface of organic polymers (such as epoxy, polyester or
metacrylate resins) causing a chemical reaction. This reaction is a
condensation reaction in the case of mineral groups or, in the case of
polymers, it is an addition reaction and/or copolymerization by
reaction with terminal groups and grafting with free-radical sites.

Q If a post is taken with bare fingers, does it remove the silanation? |

A No, but the fingers make a greasy deposit (finger prints). Wipe the post with a tissue and alcohol to clean it. |

Q Does sterilisation destroy silanation? |
|
A No, silanation effects remain even after posts have been sterilized. |
