ABOUT SILANATION

Silane is not a wetting agent, silane is not a coating!

Silane is a coupling agent used to promote adhesion.

HOW DOES SILANE WORK ?

Silane acts on the surface of minerals (such as glass or ceramic) and also on the surface of organic polymers (such as epoxy, polyester or metacrylate resins) causing a chemical reaction. This reaction is a condensation reaction in the case of mineral groups or, in the case of polymers, it is an addition reaction and/or copolymerization by reaction with terminal groups and grafting with free-radical sites.

	• Silanation improves adhesion.
	• Silanation improves hydrolysis resistance.
	• Silanation increases toughness.

WHY FACTORY SILANATION ?

	• The organo-silane used must be chosen to react with the proper polymer of the post.
	• Silane solutions have a limited lifetime.
	• The silanation procedure is precise and must be respected: factory silanation with accurate industrial control is the answer.

QUESTIONS ON SILANATION

	Q How long is silanation active?
	A Silanation is a permanent chemical reaction always active when done.
	Q If a post is taken with bare fingers, does it remove the silanation?
	A No, but the fingers make a greasy deposit (finger prints). Wipe the post with a tissue and alcohol to clean it.
	Q Does sterilisation destroy silanation?
	A No, silanation effects remain even after posts have been sterilized.
